How this works & the limits
Time = the difference between current and goal weight ÷ your selected weekly change. The date starts today and rounds up to a whole day. It assumes that average pace continues. It is an educational planning scenario, not a guarantee, a calorie target, or a personalized medical recommendation. Gain estimates refer to total body weight, not muscle gain.
CDC describes gradual loss of about 1–2 lb a week, but this is not a safe target for every person. This tool allows slower paces, blocks loss above 2 lb/week (0.9 kg in metric options), and conservatively limits gain scenarios to 1 lb/week (0.45 kg). The gain cap is this tool’s design limit, not a universal clinical rule.
We use adult BMI only as a screening guard: no timeline if either weight is below BMI 18.5, or for gain goals at BMI 30 or above. BMI cannot distinguish muscle from fat or establish your personal healthy weight. This calculator is not suitable under age 20.
